The footballer Borja Iglesias gave his opinion on the current situation of women's football in Spain and supported his colleagues.

The Spanish footballer Borja Iglesias made a particular criticism of the current situation in women's football and referred particularly to the present of two players from Barcelona and the Spanish National Team, Aitana Bonmatí and Alexia Putellas.

The player began by talking about the importance of leaders in sport being involved in social and political problems and, in that context, he spoke about homosexuality in men's football, the fight for Palestine and women's football

“To say that footballers cannot talk about politics is also to politicize football. We are part of society,” the Celta de Vigo striker began by saying in an interview with Nós Diario.

Iglesias also commented on her colleagues and said that women's football is experiencing enormous growth, although she highlighted that it could be much greater.

“People say that women's soccer does not generate the same, but possibly Alexia or Aitana generate more than me. They are two world leaders and there are still many more,” she analyzed and highlighted: “Women's soccer is experiencing enormous growth and the reality is that it is going slower than it could go. Everything has a process, they have been far behind for many years in infrastructure, in trained personnel. Everything is growing, including their income.”

In addition, the Spaniard commented on his concern that homosexuality continues to be a taboo topic in men's football and referred to the case of his teammate Héctor Bellerín, with whom he shared locker rooms. “He has been fighting against situations of this style for years and when he played for Arsenal he received tremendous punishment for doing an act with an LGTBI club,” he said.

Finally, Iglesias supported the fight for the Palestinian cause: “If they go into the goal with a Palestinian flag and that helps, I hope they do it when I go to shoot.”
