Within days of a new edition of the maximum continental club competition, we tell you that the one currently leading this table is Brazil, with 300 points, followed by Colombia (170), Chile (160) and Paraguay (127). Argentina, which will host this year, is in fifth place with 118 units, so in the editions in which it was not local it had only one representative.
What has to happen in this Copa Libertadores for Argentina to add one more place for the next editions?
From October 2 to 18, a new edition of the Copa Libertadores will be played in Argentina, a tournament that will change the history of South American women's soccer, since the winning team will play next year in the FIFA Champions Cup, an international club tournament that will provide a lot of prestige, especially for South American teams.
As Argentina will be local, it will have two representatives, Boca and San Lorenzo. However, when the Libertadores Femenina is not played in the country, Argentina only has one place. What has to happen in this edition to add one more place in the next Cups?
Points are awarded as follows: the champion team will score 20 points, the runner-up will score 15 and the team that wins third place will score 10 points. Fourth place adds 9 points, fifth place 8, sixth place 7 and seventh place 6; the eighth will add 5 points, the ninth 4, the tenth 3 and the eleventh 2. From 12th to 16th place they will add one point each.
The important thing this time for the Argentine teams will be to beat Paraguay, which today has 9 points more than Argentina. If between Boca and San Lorenzo they manage to add this number of units, next year Argentina will have two places instead of one to compete in the Libertadores.
In this edition the Paraguayan teams competing are Olimpia, which shares a group with San Lorenzo, and Libertad, a member of Group D.
The Cup will be played with a preliminary phase of 16 teams divided into four groups of four clubs each. The best two in each group will qualify for the quarterfinals and all matches will be played on a single round.
