The Argentina Women's Under 20 National Team began its participation in the 2026 World Cup in Poland with a 3-0 defeat against the host team, at the Arena Katowice.
With this result, the Albiceleste will have to seek recovery in their next match to remain with the possibility of advancing to the next stage. It should be noted that, in this edition, the first two teams in each group and the four best third teams will advance to the round of 16.
The team led by Christian Meloni had good moments during the match and had some opportunities to open the scoring, but could not do so. Poland, on the other hand, was effective and took advantage of their chances to take the three points.
Argentina took the field with Priscila Siben in goal; Sofía Quiroga, Julia Vinhas, Alma Velasco and Carolina Ceniza in defense; Agustina Maldonado, captain, along with Camila Ochoa and Brisa Jara in midfield; and Julieta Aguilar, Annika Paz and Mercedes Diz in the attack.
In the complement, Christian Meloni moved the bench and made five modifications: Julieta Martínez entered for Brisa Jara, Dolores Delgado for Annika Paz, Giselle White for Mercedes Diz and Pía Álvarez for Julieta Aguilar. Later, Violeta Álvarez replaced Camila Ochoa.
Argentina will have to turn the page quickly, when next Tuesday, from 10 a.m. (Argentine time) they face Benin, again at the Katowice Arena. It will be a key match for those led by Meloni, who will seek to score their first points in the World Cup.
The last presentation of the group stage will be against Mexico, on Friday, September 11 at 1:00 p.m.
