The Argentine National Team achieved an important victory in its presentation in the group stage of the South American U17 Women's 2026, which will take place until May 9 and will grant four places for the World Cup of the category that will be held this year in Morocco.
The Albiceleste's goals at the CARFEM Stadium in Ypané were scored by Oriana Gómez, who opened the scoring 30 minutes into the match, and by Julieta Aguilar, who extended the lead at 40'.
The next match for Christian Meloni's team in Group A will be on Sunday, at 5 p.m., against Colombia. Afterwards, the Albiceleste will face Bolivia and later against Chile. The Preliminary Phase will be played by the ten National Teams distributed in two groups of five teams each, in the round-robin system in a single round of matches. Once the Group Phase is over, the teams that occupy the first three positions in each group will qualify for the Final Phase, adding a total of six Teams classified to the next round. In the Final Phase, the first two teams in each group will compete in the semifinals. The two semi-final winners qualify directly for the final of the tournament and also guarantee their place in the 2026 Women's Under 17 World Cup. For their part, the two losing teams in the semis will face the teams that occupied the third position in each group at the end of the Preliminary Phase, in qualifying matches for said World Cup.

This was the second time that Argentina managed to start a Women's Under-17 South American Championship without scoring goals. The previous one was in the 2024 edition, in the 4-0 victory against Peru.
