The Argentine National Team played a great game in the round of 16 against the Republic of Korea, but could not turn the game around and had to say goodbye to the U20 Women's World Cup in Poland 2026.
The team led by Christian Meloni took to the field with Priscila Siben; Araya, Heim, Julia Vinhas, Carolina Ceniza, Violeta Álvarez, Agustina Maldonado, Camila Ochoa, Annika Paz, Mercedes Diz and Julieta Aguilar in search of a place in the quarterfinals.
The match remained goalless for the first few minutes, until at 33' South Korea found the opening of the scoreboard. Beom Yeju made it 1-0 for the Asian team and things went like this at halftime.
In the second half the Albiceleste did not stop searching for the rival goal and had many clear scoring chances, however the figure of the Korean goalkeeper grew and the Asian team managed to maintain the advantage until the end.
Finally, it was 1-0 defeat for the Argentine U-20 National Team and thus those led by Meloni had to say goodbye to a World Cup in which they managed to make history by winning two matches in a World Cup for the first time, against Benin and Mexico, in the group stage.
Without a doubt the result is not what was expected, but what the Albiceleste demonstrated on the playing field leaves a great feeling and enormous pride. Thank you, Argentina!
