Everything you need to know about the Women's Nations League heading to the 2027 World Cup

This year the Women's Nations League will debut for the Conmebol teams and today we tell you what this qualifying tournament for the World Cup in Brazil is about.

This year the Qualifying format will be inaugurated in South American women's football, called the Women's Nations League, to determine the teams classified for the Brazil World Cup 2027.

Previously, teams gained places for the World Cup by being hosts or through continental competitions such as the Copa América, which was problematic not only because of the dependence on a single competition, but also because of the small number of matches that the teams participating in Conmebol had.

So, this year the Women's Nations League of Conmebol will be inaugurated. What will the format be like? This tournament will be played from October 24, 2025 to June 9, 2026. In total, 36 games will be played between the teams that make up the nine member associations of Conmebol.

In this sense, it should be noted that, as Brazil will be the host country of the next World Cup, it will not participate in this edition of the Nations League.

Each team will play eight games in total: four at home and four as visitors (one team is free, so all teams will rest on one of the nine dates).

The two teams that finish first in the competition will qualify directly for Brazil 2027, while those in third and fourth place will participate in an intercontinental playoff to have one more chance.

The calendar was drawn by the Directorate of Competitions and Operations of Conmebol and Argentina will make its debut against Paraguay, on Friday, October 24 at 8:00 p.m., at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium of Argentinos Juniors.

The second match for the Albiceleste will be on Tuesday the 28th of the same month at the Centenario stadium, in Montevideo, against Uruguay.
